Dello is a social media application that aims to help people meet new people and create meaningful relationships that are based on common interests. It used to be called Group but we decided it was too close to GroupMe. It took a while, but we landed on dello, which came from de-solo, the core concept of the app. It also looks and sounds like hello.

Oh god.

I began working on the social media app in November of 2016, I had never done product design and it was very exciting to me. My friend had flown in from Chicago and a lot of discussions revolved around not being able to meet people near us who had similar interests.

Out of his visit we created dello and we have been working on it for the past few years. The app has has been through many iterations and showcases my growth as a product designer.

We wanted to tackle the problem of walking around in your city with nothing to and no one to hang out with. We targeted millennials, urban transplants, and college students because most of them recently relocated and would be seeking to rebuild their social networks.

Since the largest focus on the app would be around these user created events, we wanted to call them something unique and impactful. We decided to call our events moment because it invokes an emotional involvement that we wanted our app to emulate. We want each users have to experience moments with other users that will be meaningful and memorable. We’re not interested in digital friends lists and posting to a wall — dello gets people out and helps them connect to other real people.

Dello is currently in development. If you’re interested in getting updates about the app and about it’s release follow me on Twitter or leave a message below.
